In which the Knitting Theologian introduces herself

Monday, December 31st, 2007

I am a forty-something part-time graduate student at Seattle University’s School of Theology and Ministry, where I am pursuing a Master of Arts in Transforming Spirituality, with an emphasis in Spiritual Direction (currently). I am also employed full-time in the software industry as a middle manager, a career I have been building for the past twenty-four years. I think I might want to do something different at some point, but I’m not sure when that will be, or what “something different” might be either.

I do not wish to disclose anything about the company for which I am currently employed, except to say that I enjoy my career there and have no intention of leaving. But this blog is not about software or technical communication, and this blog does not represent the views of my company. In this forum, I am not a spokesperson for my company. This blog is about spirituality, prayer, theology studies, detecting the presence of God in everyday life, living and working with unbelievers, and knitting, not necessarily in that order.

I am also a singer, involved in music ministry at my parish, and very interested in liturgy. I might want to be a Director of Liturgy at a parish someday in the future, in addition to, or instead of, a practice in Spiritual Direction. I’m still discerning where my future lies, and will probably be discerning that for quite awhile longer.

In the interest of full disclosure, I want to clarify that I am not, in fact an actual, practicing theologian. I am a theology student, and one with only 18 credits so far. So check the facts of anything you read here–I could be wrong. Also, perhaps I shouldn’t have chosen this name for my blog, but “The Knitting Theology Student” just didn’t sound as good.

I am currently amusing myself by writing post titles in the style of an 18th century novel, thus revealing the subject area of my undergraduate degree, but I might change at any time. I am, in fact, a changeable sort of person. Also easily amused. I do promise to upload one of those “100 Things About Me” pages in the next two weeks. And, speaking of uploading posts, I do not commit to posting every day. I will commit to posting once a week. Hey, I have a day job, and it’s sort of…demanding. Not to mention graduate school, two choir rehearsals a week, running four days a week, walking two days a week, and many other things. I like to keep busy. I figure I can sleep when I’m dead.
